Sutler FAQ

Sutler FAQ

Q. Do you have RV hook up?
A. We will have electricity but you need to bring your own really long electrical cord to reach the outlet at the barn.
Q. Can I park next to my tent?
A. We try to accommodate this as much as possible but space is very limited and we do the best we can with what space is available while trying to maintain some sense of authenticity in the actual sutler row.
Q. When can I set up?
A. We begin working at the site early that week. Sutlers are welcome to roll in and start set up as early as Wednesday. However, there is no guarantee that portojohns will be there by then.
Q. Is there a specific place to set up?
A. Yes. We try to have it outlined with tape where sutler row will be. We also try to tape off the amount of space needed per sutler so please be sure to include needed dimensions (take into account needed rope space too please).
Q. Will there be a lot of sutlers selling the same thing?
A. We hope we have a lot of sutlers available. We do try to keep the same kinds of sutlers to no more than two but when there are variety sutlers instead of specialty sutlers it makes it hard. We think that reenactors and the public should be able to shop and see a wide variety of things that would have been available during the Civil War period.
Q. Are non-period sutlers  or sutler tents allowed?
A. Yes, we put you on the other side of the barn away from period sutler row. However, we do try to limit the non-period sutlers to things that might have been available during the time period.
Q. What is the sutler fee?
A. Currently the sutler fee is $30.00. Except if you are a food vendor. See next question.
Q. What if I want to sell food?
A. We have our own concession stand from which we raise money. However, we are open to allowing certain kinds of food vendors, especially if it is something we do not offer. There is a separate fee based on percentages for food vendors. You will need to contact the Laurel Home Guard before sending in registration so as to have the contract in place.
Q. Can I register and then pay at the site?
A. Yes, however we do prefer that you stop in at registration on arrival and take care of the financial and liability side of things before you begin setting up. You will also get information about where to set up then.
Q. Will there be ice available?
A. Yes we will have ice available for purchase.
